Fans of crime dramas and mystery thrillers are in for a treat as Netflix is home to a brilliant and twisted series. Starring Motherland and Until I Kill You actress Anna Maxwell Martin, the series is based on the novels by Holly Jackson, and it follows a teenager who decides to investigate the murder of a 17-year-old girl.
The show first aired on the BBC in 2024 and it received positive reviews from critics, with an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Netflix's Wednesday star Emma Myers plays the lead, Pip Fitz-Amobi, while actress Martin plays Leanne Amobi, Pip's mother. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is the series in question and season one is on Netflix now.
Third Season Confirmed
The second season was released on BBC iPlayer in May 2026 and a third and final series is set to premiere in 2027. The shorter third season, made up of four episodes, will be based on the final book in Jackson's series, As Good As Dead.
Plot Recap
In season one, Pip was looking into how schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered in Little Kilton five years previously. Her boyfriend, Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni), sent a text confessing to the murder before he too was found dead, seemingly taking his own life. Andie's body was never found and the case was closed, but Pip was convinced Sal was innocent and she made it her mission to seek justice, prompting a dark and twisted story.
Anna Maxwell Martin on Her Role
Anna Maxwell Martin told the BBC she loved being a part of the series, sharing when it was first released: "I so enjoyed being part of A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder with a really lovely cast, crew and creatives. Can’t wait for all the people who love Holly’s book to see it brought to their screens."
The star and mother-of-two also said her daughter was a huge fan of the books, adding: "When something comes along that your children are going mad for, you do tend to have a little look and get involved in it. It's quite nice that I’m in something they can watch rather than things that are inappropriate or that makes them cringe massively and hate watching me in it."
On her character Leanne, she described her as being "pretty nice as a mum", adding: "She just cares about and is a bit worried about [Pip]. She can see Pip going down a precarious road."
