Manchester United and Manchester City will learn their Carabao Cup third round opponents this evening, but the draw will follow a different format. Both clubs will feature in two draws because of their involvement in this season's Champions League.
The draw takes place after the conclusion of Preston North End vs Everton and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Nine Premier League clubs join the draw
The nine Premier League clubs that qualified for Europe last season will be added to the 23 teams still in the competition. These nine are the sides that finished in the top eight of the Premier League last season - Arsenal, City, United, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brighton - along with Conference League winners Crystal Palace.
Before the main draw begins after Preston's match with Everton at Deepdale, a pre-draw will take place to decide which of the Champions League and Europa League clubs will play at home or away in the third round. This means United and City will be involved in two draws this evening.
Clubs in Europe cannot face each other
The clubs taking part in the Champions League and Europa League cannot be drawn against each other to avoid scheduling problems.
When the main draw starts after Everton's game against Preston, the first eight fixtures to be decided will be those involving clubs in the Champions League and Europa League. After that, the draw will proceed as normal.
The Carabao Cup third round will be played across two different weeks, the weeks beginning Monday 7 September and Monday 14 September.
