Eureka! Science and Discovery on the Wirral in Merseyside has been named the UK's top-rated family attraction by consumer champion Which?, with an attraction score of 85%. The score is described as a 'combination of overall satisfaction/likelihood to recommend'.
The indoor attraction, which is an hour from Manchester, topped a list compiled from surveys of Which? members and the public about more than 5,000 trips to theme parks and other attractions. It came ahead of theme parks, which did not feature at all at the top of the list.
What makes Eureka! stand out
Which? said: "Our highest rated attraction, Eureka Science and Discovery, looks, with its multi-storey climbing tree, like an indoor adventure park but is as educational as a science museum, making it a huge hit with kids and their parents."
The consumer body added: "There are few queues, no overcrowding and, at £16.95, it’s cheaper than most days out in our list." One visitor said: "There’s so much to see and do that it’s great value for money, especially compared to other similar places."
The museum is in Wallasey, on the opposite side of the River Mersey to the Royal Albert Dock and the Museum of Liverpool. An additional Eureka! to the one in Halifax, West Yorkshire, it opened in 2022, aiming to make science, technology, education, art and mathematics (STEAM) subjects more exciting for children up to the age of 14.
Other attractions on the list
Those surveyed by Which? also rated the rides at amusement parks, the food and drink stalls, and the best and worst attractions for queues and more. Legoland Discovery Centres in Manchester and Birmingham also made the top 10, with an attraction score of 73% putting them in eighth position.
Which? said: "If your child wants to visit the much more famous (and expensive) Legoland Windsor, perhaps convince them to travel to Birmingham instead (there is one in Manchester too). Legoland Discovery may be much smaller, but the visitors in our survey gave it a much higher customer score. It’s cheaper, there are some fun rides, loads of Lego to build and, crucially, you won’t spend hours hanging around in queues."
Ninjago event in Manchester
Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester, which is inside Trafford Palazzo, is currently hosting a Ninjago Experience. Lego Ninjago: The True Ninja Trials celebrates 15 years of Ninjago: Dragons Rising Series 4 with interactive challenges, hands-on Lego building activities, and 'action-packed missions designed for aspiring ninjas of all ages'.
Guests will journey into the mystical Whispering Woods, meet fan-favourite hero Kai, and take part in The True Ninja Trials, a series of adventures that test creativity, skill, and teamwork as participants battle elemental forces and work to restore balance to the world of Ninjago. The event is running until September 7 with tickets costing from £14.
