Pubs and bars across the UK are celebrating this week after triumphing at a prestigious award ceremony. The National Pub and Bar Awards showcase the best pubs and bars in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and also see a list of top venues selected for each region.
A total of 94 county winners were chosen, as well as commendations being handed out and a range of other winners crowned. The overall winner was the 16-bedroom Gunton Arms, based near Cromer, Norfolk, run by husband-and-wife team Stuart and Simone Tattersall.
The Gunton Arms: National Pub of the Year
The kitchen is led by award-winning chef Stuart, previously head chef at Mark Hix, who uses locally-sourced ingredients such as venison and cooks over a fire grill. He said: “I’m gobsmacked. Absolutely incredible to be mentioned in the same breath as so many of these people at the awards. It’s a credit to the team at The Gunton and the great county of Norfolk. Our guests have really supported us and been really kind to us, so after 15 years, to get this is a massive achievement.”
Other Major Winners
Other venues to win big on the night were Caledonian Heritable, which claimed pub group of the year, and German bierhaus brand Albert’s Schloss, which was named bar group of the year. Meanwhile, the Welldiggers Arms in Petworth, West Sussex, was given the Tyrrellbly Good Taste Award. The Devonshire in Soho earned the Industry Choice Award, voted for by people across the sector, for the second year in a row.
