Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily halted after director Matt Reeves was forced to step away for personal reasons, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced on Monday.
In a statement, DC Studios said: “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
Sequel already faced multiple delays
The sequel to the 2022 blockbuster, which earned more than $772 million at the box office, features Robert Pattinson alongside Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell in a star-studded cast. The latest delay, reported by Deadline, comes after the film was already postponed twice, with the sequel originally set for release on October 3, 2025. That date was pushed back to October 1, 2027, following the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strike. Before the pause, the movie was set to premiere on February 18, 2028.
Filming locations and returning cast
It is now unclear whether the release date will be impacted again. The sequel, which began filming in June earlier this year, is primarily being shot at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, alongside exterior location shoots in London and Glasgow. Alongside Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as police commissioner James Gordon, with Jayme Lawson and Gil Perez-Abraham also returning as Mayor Bella Reál and Officer Martinez respectively.
