The inquest for an Oasis fan who fell to his death at Wembley Stadium has been formally opened. Lee Claydon, 45, died from “multiple bodily injuries” after plunging from the upper tier of the stadium on August 2, Barnet Coroner’s Court heard.
Mr Claydon, a landscape gardener and father from Bournemouth, was a “lifelong” Oasis fan and had attended the concert with his brother and his brother’s children. He was rushed for urgent medical attention but was pronounced dead at the stadium’s medical centre at 10.30pm.
Detective Inspector Aimee-Leigh Sando said a large number of potential witnesses came forward after news of the death emerged, and detectives are still gathering evidence, including CCTV footage. The coroner adjourned the inquest for a review on November 19.
In a statement, Oasis said they were “shocked and saddened” by the tragic death and extended condolences to the family. Wembley Stadium said it operates to a “very high health and safety standard” and is working with authorities. More than £30,000 was raised online to support Mr Claydon’s partner and child.
