Newcastle United have staged fresh talks with Victor Munoz after declaring to La Liga side Osasuna that they want to sign the speedy winger.
Deemed as an ideal replacement for Anthony Gordon by both Eddie Howe and sporting director Ross Wilson, the Magpies approached Osasuna last week to discuss the youngster further.
The ex-Real Madrid youth product has a release clause of around £34.5 million. While there have been reports of an official bid, Newcastle are yet to agree on a price tag for the 22-year-old.
Despite no official proposal being tabled, Newcastle's interest in the pacy wide man is undeniable.
Munoz was the subject of an enquiry from Sunderland earlier this year, but Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez made his stance clear: “We won’t even listen; we’re sticking to the clause.”
He added: “Real Madrid have a three-year buyback clause that has already been agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Victor until the end of the season. Football is very unpredictable.”
Newcastle's Youth Policy
Newcastle's policy of signing younger stars is evident. Sporting director Ross Wilson said after signing Ewen Jaouen this week: “We are delighted to welcome Ewen to Newcastle United. This is a signing we have been working hard on for a number of months, and we are really pleased to get it over the line.
“Ewen is a hugely talented young goalkeeper who has gained a lot of admirers across European clubs, and he has an exciting future ahead of him.
“What stood out for us, in all of our discussions, was his ambition, his focus and his determination to be here. We can’t wait to watch him develop and we know our supporters will give him a warm welcome.”
