Newcastle United's head of goalkeeping, Adam Bartlett, has left the club as Matthias Jaissle's rebuild continues at the KNOX. Bartlett oversaw the goalkeeper department during the 2025 Carabao Cup campaign and two Champions League qualifications, and was close to Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Aaron Ramsdale.
Departure follows Howe exit
The former Academy stopper, who also played for Gateshead, Kidderminster and Darlington, initially stayed on after Eddie Howe and his backroom team departed. He now joins Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches among the 2026 leavers as Jaissle assembles his own staff.
Bartlett was promoted to head of goalkeeping under Howe in summer 2022, following the departure of long-serving coach Simon Smith. Smith had served under Steve McClaren, Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce before leaving at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
New staff named
Jaissle has appointed Alexander Bade to head up his goalkeeper coaches ahead of the 2026/27 season. Alexander Hauser and Engin Yanova join as assistant coaches, Florens Koch as coach, and Maximilian Fischer and Steffen Konrad as analysts.
Howe's other goalkeeper coach, Daniel Garcia, has left to join Aston Villa after four years with the first team. Garcia, who hails from Madrid, was part of Howe's Carabao Cup-winning backroom team in 2025 and was promoted to senior staff in 2022 after initially joining the Academy goalkeeping backroom.
Garcia joins Villa
The 30-year-old originally joined from Rayo Vallecano and served Newcastle since 2018. He now links up with Villa manager Unai Emery.
Garcia said: "I've joined Aston Villa as Goalkeeping Assistant Coach. Today the season starts. Proud to be part of it. Up the Villa."
However, Garcia endured a debut to forget as Villa were thumped 4-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion, with Marco Bizot suffering a torrid afternoon on the South Coast.
