Newcastle Fan Zones Return for England vs Norway Quarter Final

After a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mexico, England face Norway in the World Cup quarter final on Saturday, July 11, and two Newcastle fan zones that were closed for the previous match will reopen. St James' STACK and O2 City Hall Newcastle will host fans for the 2am kick-off in Miami.

Fan Zones Closed for Mexico Match

Several outdoor fan zones in Newcastle were open for the Mexico game, but the popular Times Square location was not given the green light to open. O2 City Hall Newcastle also remained shut due to scheduled gigs on Sunday and Monday. However, both venues will return for the Norway match, with tickets on sale now.

Match Recap and Quarter Final Details

England's win against Mexico was dramatic: a swift double from Jude Bellingham put England 2-0 up, before Mexico pulled one back before half time. After the break, Jarell Quansah received a straight red card, reducing England to 10 men. Harry Kane then scored a penalty after Anthony Gordon was fouled, making it 3-1. Mexico's Raul Jimenez converted another penalty to make it 3-2, setting up a tense finale with 11 minutes of stoppage time. England held on, securing a quarter final clash with Norway.

Ticket Information and Atmosphere

Tickets for the Times Square fan zone are £12.50, while general admission for O2 City Hall Newcastle is £5. The atmosphere in Newcastle city centre for the Mexico match was buzzing, with St James' STACK packed out and more fans arriving as kick-off was delayed until 2am. Despite the late hour, attendees were thrilled by the match.

According to Simon Duke, What's On Editor at ChronicleLive, the fan zones are expected to draw large crowds again for the quarter final. "All those who ended up going out for England v Mexico, while bleary eyed by the end of it, were left very glad that they did," he reported.
