The Monaco Grand Prix result could change yet again days after the race, with an official date and time set for the Alpine review. The chaotic weekend in the principality continues to unfold as Alpine driver Pierre Gasly fumes over multiple five-second penalties for breaching the pitlane speeding limit.
Penalty Controversy
Gasly was among several drivers penalized for speeding in the pitlane, where the limit was reduced due to narrow entry lanes. The Frenchman received two penalties, dropping him from third to seventh in the final classification. Isack Hadjar inherited third place, celebrating his first Monaco podium alongside Lewis Hamilton and winner Kimi Antonelli.
Appeal Hearing Scheduled
The FIA has announced a review will be held at midday on Thursday, with a decision on reinstating Gasly's P3 finish to be made at a second hearing. Gasly believes the punishment was incorrect, stating: "I don't think there is anything that could hurt me more right now. It's 10 years I'm working my ass off for this type of moment. We did everything right today for standing on that podium in front of all the fans that turned up. This is the type of moment that for me can't be taken away from us by unfair reasons."
Other Penalties and Reactions
George Russell and Hamilton were among other drivers penalized in Monaco. It remains unclear whether human error or a different mistake caused the high number of speeding penalties. Gasly elaborated: "I know for a fact that what's in the car is below the 60kph and I know on both occasions I've put it way before the line... When you have three or four teams that get caught for speeding, hopefully it rings a bell to the guys that they need to check exactly what's going on."
Looking Ahead
Attention now turns to the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix this weekend. After his fifth consecutive win in Monaco, Antonelli is aiming for a sixth victory on the spin.
