Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson, but the deal is not yet finalised as personal terms remain unresolved.
Agreement reached after improved bid
City have been pursuing Anderson for several weeks and saw multiple offers rejected by Forest. However, their latest improved bid, submitted on Thursday, has been accepted. According to The Athletic, the exact fee is undisclosed, but Forest had hoped to secure a sum greater than the £125 million Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last season. Previous City offers of £106 million and £120 million were turned down.
Personal terms the final hurdle
The transfer is contingent on Anderson agreeing personal terms with Manchester City. This step, along with related formalities, may not be completed until after the World Cup. However, the player is scheduled to undergo a medical on Friday in New York City, as reported by The Athletic.
Anderson's rise at Forest and England duty
Anderson has been at Nottingham Forest since leaving Newcastle in 2023, making 92 appearances for the club. He played every Premier League match this season and his performances earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad. He has started both of England's group stage matches and is expected to feature against Panama on Saturday.
Replacement and other City moves
Forest are yet to identify a replacement for Anderson, though reports suggest Tottenham's Lucas Bergvall could be an option. Meanwhile, Manchester City, who beat Manchester United to sign Anderson, are without a confirmed manager after Pep Guardiola's departure. Ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is expected to take over. City are also interested in Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto, who may be available as Chelsea pursue Marco Palestra.
