Madison Keys Wins Eastbourne, Osaka Withdraws with Injury

Madison Keys secured her third Eastbourne title on Saturday, defeating Germany's Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4 in 93 minutes under sweltering heat on England's south coast. The 31-year-old American, seeded second, earned her first title since winning the Australian Open in 2025, gaining momentum ahead of Wimbledon.

With this victory, Keys joins Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova as three-time champions at Eastbourne. It was her 11th WTA title and 16th career final. She avenged a semi-final loss to Maria on grass at Queen's Club last year. Keys faced only one break point throughout the match, dominating against the world No. 112.

Perfect Wimbledon Preparation

Keys' first WTA title came at Eastbourne 12 years ago, and she also won in 2023. She has never advanced beyond the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, which begins Monday. She will face compatriot Kayla Day in the first round on Tuesday.

"I feel really good about my game right now," Keys said. "This gives me a lot of confidence going into Wimbledon."

Osaka's Injury Setback

Naomi Osaka's Wimbledon preparations suffered a blow when she retired from the Bad Homburg Open final due to a foot injury. The fourth-seeded Japanese player was trailing 6-1, 1-0 to Karolina Muchova of Czechia when she withdrew after a medical timeout. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, is seeded 14th at Wimbledon and scheduled to face Elsa Jacquemot in the first round.
