Three years after starring in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Indiana Jones for a new Disneyland theme park ride. The 84-year-old actor will appear as an animatronic version of the character for the first time.
New Ride Details Revealed
The attraction, titled Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, will be built at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida. It is set in the 1950s, before the events of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This will be the first Indiana Jones ride to feature Ford as Indy; three other rides exist at Disney parks in California, Tokyo, and Paris.
Ford's Message to Fans
In a recorded message at D23, Ford said: “Thanks for coming along on all of Indy’s adventures. Soon will be time for his next ride and I’m pleased to share that for the first time ever I’m the actual model of the Indiana Jones animatronic, fear of snakes included. I’m excited for you to see his next epic adventure and I’m coming to Walt Disney World soon.”
Plot and Setting
The ride's synopsis describes a journey with Indy beneath an ancient temple ruin, showcasing Maya culture and its connection to nature. Riders will rendezvous with Dr. Jones near a cenote, where local legend says a passageway leads to the Maya Underworld, protected by a serpentine creature called the Tsukán. The adventure involves escaping dangers like monstrous bats, scorpions, fire, and snakes. It is unclear whether Ford will voice the animatronic.
