Contained, a horror-themed escape room on Derby Road in Bootle, has launched a family-friendly experience. The attraction, known for its terrifying private escape room experiences, holds a 4.9 out of five star rating on Google.
The attraction features two immersive experiences: The Exorcist, a live escape room, and Snatched, which includes a live actor. Both are designed for teenagers and adults, but the new third experience, Vampire Hunters, is aimed at families.
Vampire Hunters for ages 8 and up
Vampire Hunters, with a minimum age of 8+, takes visitors to an ancient castle to "uncover its secrets" and destroy the vampire living inside. The 60-minute experience is rated "one out of five for scare levels," making it a "family-friendly adventure," according to co-founder Sean Porter.
Participants learn about five vampire hunters who previously tried to kill the vampire, leading to the "ultimate finale." Porter told the ECHO: "We find that a lot of people who have sent enquires in the past want to do something in the horror field, but don't necessarily want to be scared. That's younger families, and even some adults don't like to be scared, but like the spooky feel. We now have something for everyone."
Existing experiences and scare levels
The Exorcist follows the story of missing Father Daniels, last located in the home of a 12-year-old girl believed to be possessed by a demon. Visitors search the child's room to piece together what happened to the priest and discover the truth about the possession.
Snatched, featuring a live actor, is rated "five out of five for scare levels." Booking data shows 41% of teams have quit, with the average quit time at 24 minutes into the hour-long experience. The experience includes a "chilling disclaimer" where participants "acknowledge that this is an immersive experience deliberately designed to provoke fear, discomfort and psychological tension."
Porter added: "I ran a game last night, they came all the way from Kettering, and they actually pressed the emergency stop through fear. They pressed that 30 minutes and 40 seconds in. That kind of thing happens all the time. But that's what people pay for, they want to be scared." More information on Contained is available on its website.
