The Premier League summer transfer window will officially close at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1. After this cutoff point, English top-flight clubs are prohibited from registering any new players from other teams, with the same time constraints applying to EFL clubs.
Deal sheet extensions and outgoing players
Clubs can receive a two-hour grace period if they manage to submit a completed deal sheet before the 11pm deadline. A deal sheet is a document submitted to the league just before the transfer deadline to prove an agreement has been reached. This extension gives recruitment teams until 1am to finalise all the paperwork for a transfer that has already been agreed.
Even though clubs cannot bring in new faces after 11pm, Premier League teams are free to sell or loan out squad members after the English window has closed. This remains an option as long as the purchasing club is based abroad and their domestic transfer window is still active.
New signings, free agents and squad submissions
For a deadline day arrival to feature in the upcoming weekend's fixtures, they must be officially registered with the Premier League by 12pm on the last working day before the match. As the next Premier League match after the deadline is Friday, September 4, every club should have ample time to register their new signings.
The summer transfer window constraints do not apply to players who are out of contract. Free agents can still be snapped up by English clubs outside of the transfer window, but teams must still comply with squad size limits.
Following the end of the transfer window, every top-flight club is required to submit their finalised 25-man squad list for the first half of the season. Managers are restricted in how many non-homegrown players they can name, although eligible under-21 prospects are excluded from counting towards this limit.
