The summer transfer window will officially close at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1. This deadline applies to both Premier League and EFL clubs.
Deal sheet extensions and outgoing players
Clubs can be granted a two-hour extension if they successfully submit a completed deal sheet before the 11pm deadline. A deal sheet is a document sent to the league shortly before the deadline to confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement. This additional time allows recruitment staff until 1am to complete all necessary paperwork for a transfer that has already been agreed in principle.
While clubs are unable to bring in new signings after 11pm, teams can sell or loan out players once the English window has shut. This remains possible provided the buying club is based overseas and their own domestic transfer window is open.
New signing debuts and free agents
For any deadline day recruit to be eligible for selection in the following weekend's fixtures, they must be formally registered by 12pm on the last working day before the match. Given that the next set of EFL fixtures occur in midweek, some new signings will likely miss the cut-off.
Transfer window restrictions do not affect players whose contracts have expired. Clubs can still recruit free agents beyond the transfer window, though they must adhere to squad size regulations.
Final squad submissions
Once the transfer window closes, each club must lodge their completed 25-man squad list for the first half of the season. Managers face limitations on the number of non-homegrown players they can include, though qualifying under-21 players do not count towards this quota.
