Tottenham have opened talks with Chelsea over a late deal for Tosin Adarabioyo after he was offered to Manchester United.
Tosin made 41 appearances for Chelsea during his first season at Stamford Bridge after joining the Blues on a free transfer. But the 28-year-old centre-back has become an increasingly less influential figure in west London and was left out of Xabi Alonso's matchday squads for Chelsea's first two Premier League games of the season.
Spurs working on deal
Chelsea are hoping to offload Tosin before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday night and the ex-Fulham star was even reportedly offered to Manchester United last week.
While United are not pursuing a deal, Tottenham have expressed interest and are now 'working on a deal' with Chelsea, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Spurs are in the market for a new defender as Kevin Danso looks set to leave the club and Romano says a deal for Tosin is a 'concrete possibility'.
Tottenham have been the biggest spenders in the Premier League so far this summer, splashing out over £300m on a host of signings. Spurs spent over £200m on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes alone, but the new signings are yet to lead to success, with Tottenham losing their first two Premier League games without scoring a goal.
Chelsea's defensive reshuffle
Chelsea put Tosin up for sale after signing French centre-back Maxence Lacroix in a £52m deal from Crystal Palace. The Blues have also been working on a deal for Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor but Crystal Palace are now leading the race to sign the £40m star.
Ironically given he was recently offered to Manchester United, Tosin was close to moving to Old Trafford back in 2024 but favoured Chelsea. 'Once I knew Chelsea were interested, I was fully focused on that,' Tosin said at the time. 'When it came down to it, to hear the project that's going on here, it's amazing. It's an amazing project, an amazing club, so for me it was a no-brainer.'
Chelsea beat Tosin's former club Fulham in their Premier League opener before a thrilling 4-3 win over Brighton on Sunday. Asked about Chelsea's transfer plans after the most recent victory, Alonso said: 'We will see what happens. We are ready for whatever. Most important is the team. And however we finish on Tuesday, I am happy it will be a good squad to compete this season.'
