Tottenham could bid farewell to as many as seven players before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday evening. Incomings have been aplenty in north London, with Manchester City duo Savio and Omar Marmoush the latest Premier League stars to be snapped up by Roberto De Zerbi. They joined Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson in a spend nearing £400million.
But that expenditure did not stop Spurs from losing both of their games to begin the season, the latest coming in a 2-0 upset at home by Newcastle.
Pape Matar Sarr
The midfielder's exit is a matter of when, not if. Juventus, Monaco and Galatasaray have expressed interest but Sarr appears destined to move to Serie A. Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa were both chasing the £30m-rated star, but he is set to join Juventus.
De Zerbi said: "Pape is good. We have to see in the last days of the transfer market what can happen with him. I've been very clear with all the players."
Richarlison and Kevin Danso
The acquisition of Marmoush could spell the end of the Brazilian's time at Spurs. Richarlison has been linked with a return to Everton, though a switch to the Saudi Pro League appears the more probable destination. He was left out completely during Spurs' defeat to Everton and De Zerbi confirmed that the striker asked multiple times to leave.
Danso was the third player De Zerbi named after losing to Newcastle as a player who wants to leave, though Spurs have knocked back a loan offer from Nottingham Forest.
"Richarlison, I don't know, he said too many times he wants to leave," De Zerbi admitted. "Danso came to me two days ago and he said wants to leave and Pape Sarr, the same but he suffer a small injury but he is almost ready to train. I love these players, they are great guys, I have very good relationships, but if they want to leave, they have to bring the solution, the economic solution, to the club, and they can go, and we find other players."
Loans and other departures
The intention was always to send the talented youngster Mikey Moore out on loan once more, but Spurs' early-season lack of attacking options complicated matters somewhat. Moore featured from the start against Brentford and Charlton, but with Savio and Marmoush now through the door, the path has been cleared for yet another loan stint.
Kota Takai, the 21-year-old Japanese defender who spent the second half of last season at Borussia Monchengladbach, could be heading there once more, with Watford reportedly keen. Jamie Donley, another youngster in need of regular senior football, is a target on loan for Jack Wilshere's Luton Town. Donley, 21, is no stranger to temporary moves, having previously had spells at Leyton Orient, Stoke City and Oxford United. Dane Scarlett, the 22-year-old, is reportedly attracting interest from League One Reading, following previous loan stints at Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Oxford United and Hibernian.
