Real Madrid eye Quansah in potential Alexander-Arnold blow

Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign former Liverpool star Jarell Quansah, which could serve as a blow to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Both Quansah and Alexander-Arnold left the Reds in the summer of 2025 and are facing uncertain futures as the January transfer window approaches.

Liverpool sold Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £35million, who has since gone on to become a key player for the Bundesliga outfit and has become a regular for the England national team.

Alexander-Arnold's struggles at the Bernabeu

Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool to join Real Madrid shortly before his contract was due to expire, but has faced an uncertain future almost ever since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The right-back has made five appearances for Madrid so far this season under new manager Jose Mourinho, but has only started two matches in La Liga and has been an unused substitute three times.

As a result, Madrid have been heavily linked with signing a new right-back once again, despite having only brought Denzel Dumfries to the club in the summer on a permanent deal from Inter Milan.

Quansah's Liverpool buy-back clause

Sport Bild have reported that Madrid are showing an interest in signing Quansah as their new right-back, who would potentially replace Alexander-Arnold.

It has also been reported that Quansah could compete with Alexander-Arnold if he moved to the Spanish capital, despite the La Liga giants also having Dumfries in their squad.

Quansah is under contract with Leverkusen until the summer of 2030, with Liverpool having a clause to be able to re-sign the versatile defender.

Liverpool have the option to sign Quansah for £55million as part of a buy-back clause which was included in the deal that saw the defender move to Germany.

The ECHO have also reported that Quansah has also agreed personal terms with Liverpool in the event that the Reds decide to try and bring him back to Anfield.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Quansah and whether or not a return to Liverpool could happen, or if Madrid will go on to pursue their interest in the defender and see him move to Spain rather than come back to Merseyside.
