Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has strongly indicated his desire to end his time at Old Trafford and secure a permanent switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor.
From Third Choice to First-Team Star
The 29-year-old Cameroonian international joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan back in September 2025, after falling down the pecking order under new United boss Ruben Amorim. Onana had started just one of United's opening four games this season, finding himself behind Altay Bayindir and new £18.2million signing Senne Lammens.
His move to Turkey, however, has revitalised his career. Onana has been an ever-present figure for Trabzonspor, playing in all 13 of their Super Lig matches since his arrival. The club currently sits third in the table, seven points behind leaders Galatasaray.
'Living the Best Period of My Life'
In a telling interview, Onana expressed immense happiness with his new life, leaving little doubt about his preferred future. "I'm very happy, trust me. I'm living the best period of my life. I can't complain, I'm very happy to be here," he stated.
He elaborated on adapting to the passionate fan culture, saying, "They are my men, I love them, and I love this feeling. Because they are very passionate. It's a wonderful thing... the time I've spent here has been perfect for me." This glowing endorsement will be seen as a clear signal to both clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
Managerial Praise and a Word of Caution
Trabzonspor's hierarchy are clearly enamoured with their loan star. Club president Ertugrul Dogan praised Onana's professionalism and character, noting he gives "private lessons" to the club's young goalkeepers after training.
However, manager Fatih Tekke offered a slight note of caution amidst the praise. While acknowledging Onana is "one of the best when the ball is at his feet," Tekke revealed he has been warning the goalkeeper about taking too many risks, citing "two risky moves" in a recent match that could have led to a different outcome.
With Onana seemingly settled and performing, the stage is set for Trabzonspor to negotiate a full transfer with Manchester United in January, bringing a swift end to the goalkeeper's challenging stint in the Premier League.
