Newcastle United are set for a busy final few weeks of the summer transfer window as they look to add more players to Matthias Jaissle's squad. The Magpies have already signed five players, and want to add to that number, with up to four more potential incoming deals.
Key targets and squad gaps
United need to find a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes after his move to Arsenal, while they are also desperately short of cover in the full-back areas. Jaissle wants time to assess his squad after taking over from Eddie Howe last week, but decisions will need to be made relatively quickly.
There could be more departures, with the likes of Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock consistently linked with moves away from St James' Park, with Celtic said to be keen on keeper Pope.
Amar Dedic completes move
Amar Dedic arrived in Newcastle on Sunday to complete his move from Benfica. The right-back is expected to be confirmed as a United player imminently, after a £30m deal was agreed with the Portuguese club.
Dedic could make his debut against Liverpool on Sunday, with Tino Livramento expected to miss the game.
Liam Delap links
Newcastle United and Everton have been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap, who is available for around £40m. United had been keen on the 23-year-old last summer, but he opted to move to Stamford Bridge from Ipswich. However, he suffered a miserable season, with injuries and a loss of form seeing him making little contribution.
New boss Xavi Alonso has reportedly sanctioned his exit, with Italian side Como keen on a deal. Delap is said to prefer staying in the Premier League, with both Newcastle and Everton strongly linked.
Pre-season is over with all the focus now on Newcastle United's opening Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday.
