Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola faces a selection decision over Ryan Gravenberch as his side prepare to host Premier League champions Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, their fourth consecutive home match.
The Reds extended their winning run to five games by beating Chelsea on penalties in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Anfield on Wednesday evening. That victory followed Champions League wins over LASK and Villarreal, along with Premier League triumphs against Brentford and Brighton.
Expected rotation for seventh of nine games
For the seventh of nine games in 29 days, Iraola is expected to heavily rotate his starting line-up, although the extent could depend on whether any players have returned from injury.
Giorgi Mamardashvili, despite a fine match against Chelsea, will almost certainly be replaced by first-choice Alisson Becker, with Freddie Woodman the third goalkeeper. Jeremy Jacquet came off the bench in midweek and is poised to regain his place alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence. Ronald Araujo and Joe Gomez are other options, while Giovanni Leoni has been touted for a return to training next month after more than a year out with a serious knee injury.
Araujo and Gomez are also vying for the right-back role, having both featured there over the past week. Jeremie Frimpong is out until after the November international break, while Conor Bradley is still recovering from his long-term knee issue. At left-back, Kostas Tsimikas started against Chelsea with Milos Kerkez absent from the matchday squad altogether, and Luke Chambers was on the bench.
Midfield and attack options
Alexis Mac Allister will be anticipating a return in one of the two defensive midfield roles after making a late cameo against Chelsea, but who starts alongside the Argentine is less than clear. While Gravenberch had a poor game on Wednesday, teenager Trey Nyoni impressed but is still to make his full Premier League debut.
Dominik Szoboszlai could return after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem, while Wataru Endo has yet to feature for even a minute this term. James McConnell started in the number 10 role against Chelsea but will be expected to make way for Florian Wirtz, who came on for the closing stages.
Iraola mixed and matched once again in attack on Wednesday with Cody Gakpo down the middle, Lewis Koumas on the right and Rio Ngumoha on the left. Alexander Isak, though, is primed to go back down the centre of the attack with Bradley Barcola filling one of the two wide roles. That is likely to leave Gakpo and Ngumoha fighting for the third forward spot, although Ngumoha hasn't started a Premier League game since the opening weekend of the season and has never started consecutive games fewer than six days apart.
Liverpool are still waiting to discover if Victor Munoz is available after missing the last three games, while Federico Chiesa was among the unused substitutes against Chelsea. Jayden Danns is continuing to build up his fitness with the under-21s, and Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined with his long-term Achilles problem.
