Manchester United are set to trigger Anthony Martial's contract extension clause, keeping the French forward at Old Trafford until 2020. The decision comes amid uncertainty over his future following a difficult season under manager Jose Mourinho.
Martial, who joined United from Monaco for £36 million in 2015, missed out on a place in France's World Cup-winning squad due to limited playing time last season. His agent had previously expressed the player's disillusionment, leading to reported interest from Juventus and Tottenham.
However, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is now prepared to activate the one-year extension. Martial is leading the attack in pre-season with Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford on extended breaks after the World Cup.
Teammate Ander Herrera praised Martial's ability, saying: 'He's very talented. He can be one of the best players in the world and I think he's very, very focused this season to smash it.'
Fellow Spaniard Juan Mata also highlighted the promise of United's academy players, including Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, who featured in the recent 1-1 draw with Club America. Mata described the future as 'bright for Manchester United with these Academy players.'
