Manchester United target Senne Lammens has been omitted from Royal Antwerp's squad for their clash with Mechelen, fuelling speculation that a £17.3 million move to Old Trafford is imminent. The Belgian goalkeeper is expected to provide competition for Andre Onana, who has faced criticism for errors since joining from Inter Milan in 2023.
United manager Ruben Amorim has been keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options, especially after backup Altay Bayindir was at fault for the winning goal in the recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. Lammens' absence from the Antwerp squad suggests a deal is close, with Yannick Thoelen starting in goal and new signing Taishi Brandon Nozawa on the bench.
Despite Lammens' expected arrival, Amorim has insisted that it does not necessarily mean Onana or Bayindir will leave. 'It's not an idea that these players are going to leave and then we'll receive another player,' he said. 'We don't know what is going to happen but we are not waiting to take out someone to bring another player in.'
United have already made several signings this summer, including Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. Amorim believes the squad is stronger than last season, citing improved data and performance in duels and recovery runs.
