Manchester United are planning a £60 million move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, with club officials believing the bid would be sufficient to persuade the Eagles to sell. The 21-year-old has impressed manager Ruben Amorim, who views him as a key target to bolster his midfield options.
United failed to strengthen their midfield last summer but are now prioritising the position, with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes facing scrutiny. Amorim has closely monitored Wharton's progress at Selhurst Park and is convinced the England international has the technical ability to succeed at Old Trafford.
The report suggests Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro could leave the club. Mainoo has not started a Premier League match this season and may join Napoli on loan in January, while Casemiro's contract expires next year. Wharton, who joined Palace from Blackburn for £18 million in February 2024, quickly established himself in the top flight and earned a place in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad.
Palace have a history of selling key players for the right price, having sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal for £67.5 million last summer and Michael Olise to Bayern Munich a year earlier. United's pursuit of Wharton comes after they spent £200 million on forwards Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha in the summer.
