Man Utd Face Four Rivals for £100m Anderson as Summer Move Looms
Man Utd face four rivals for Elliot Anderson

Manchester United's Midfield Search Heats Up

Manchester United have identified Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson as a potential transfer target, but the Red Devils will face stiff competition from four other Premier League clubs for his signature. According to emerging reports, a move is unlikely to happen in the January window, with United preferring to wait until the summer before making a formal approach.

Forest's Stance and Soaring Valuation

The pursuit of the England international is complicated by his club's position and a rapidly increasing price tag. Nottingham Forest are unwilling to do business in January, having only signed Anderson from Newcastle for £35 million a little over a year ago. His burgeoning reputation at the City Ground has now prompted talk of a staggering £100 million valuation, a figure that reflects his significant development.

For United manager Ruben Amorim, strengthening the central midfield is a clear priority. The club had previously made approaches for players like Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher during the summer. More recently, they have been linked with Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Joao Gomes from Wolves. However, the club's strategy for the upcoming winter market is expected to be cautious, focusing only on 'market opportunities' rather than major long-term investments.

Summer Showdown and Potential Replacements

When United do decide to act, the competition will be fierce. The Times suggests that Anderson could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, whose contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in the summer. This potential move will not go uncontested, however.

Mirror Football has reported that Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester City, and Chelsea are all monitoring Anderson's situation. Newcastle's interest is particularly intriguing, as they sold the academy product to Forest primarily to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules. Despite this, a return to St James' Park is considered unlikely due to the enormous finances now involved, a deal that manager Eddie Howe was originally against.

While Amorim has not completely ruled out activity in January, he is preparing to utilise the club's academy before making a major splash for a new midfielder in the summer. The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations will also impact his squad, with Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui all set to be absent. "Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON]," Amorim admitted. "But we already knew."
