Manchester United have added Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes to their summer transfer shortlist as the club plans a midfield overhaul. The 25-year-old Brazilian is expected to leave Molineux this summer, with Wolves facing relegation to the Championship.
Gomes, who joined Wolves from Flamengo in January 2023, has been a key figure in recent improved performances under manager Rob Edwards. He impressed in wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool, scoring in the former. Several Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation, and Gomes is keen to stay in the top flight to boost his international prospects.
Despite signing a new contract last April, Gomes is almost certain to move on if the price is right. A potential reunion with close friend Matheus Cunha, who joined United from Wolves last summer, could be an added incentive.
United are targeting two midfielders this summer, with Casemiro set to leave when his contract expires and Manuel Ugarte expected to be sold after struggling since his move from Paris Saint-Germain. Other names on United's shortlist include Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott, and Sandro Tonali.
