Manchester United are reportedly considering Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas as an alternative to Newcastle United's Lewis Hall in their search for a new left-back this summer.
United currently have Luke Shaw as their only senior left-back following Tyrell Malacia's departure as a free agent earlier in the summer. Hall has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the defender faces an uncertain future at St James' Park.
Salinas identified as 'Plan B'
According to Spanish news outlet Sport, United have identified Salinas as a 'Plan B' should they fail to secure Hall's signature. The Reds are reportedly willing to pay the €16million (£13.7m) release clause in Salinas' contract, while Barcelona are not prepared to do so.
Salinas has also been linked with Barcelona, meaning United would face competition for his signature if they pursue the deal.
United's summer business
United have completed three signings so far this summer, with midfield reinforcements seen as the priority. Andrey Santos was signed from Chelsea for £50m, while Youri Tielemans joined after United activated the £35m release clause in his contract at Aston Villa.
Karl Darlow has also been brought in to provide backup to Senne Lammens, which has led to speculation that Altay Bayindir could leave Old Trafford.
Hall's future uncertain
Hall has been linked with a return to Chelsea this summer, but the defender is reported to have turned down the chance to move back to Stamford Bridge. Newcastle have already sanctioned several major exits this summer, including Anthony Gordon (£69m) and Sandro Tonali (£100m), while Bruno Guimaraes could move to Arsenal in the days or weeks ahead.
