Manchester United are reportedly considering Eddie Howe as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, while also being linked with moves for Alberto Costa and Brian Brobbey.
Howe open to United role
Eddie Howe is reportedly keen to take on the Manchester United job should Michael Carrick vacate his post. The Englishman left Newcastle in July and is said to be keen on taking an extended break from football to spend more time with his family.
According to reports from The Telegraph, he will be selective with his next job and does not want to take on a project he sees as lesser than Newcastle. United has been mentioned as a club in which he is interested, as he targets a role at an underachieving legacy club.
Costa scouted by both clubs
Manchester United are reportedly ready to rival Arsenal for the signature of Alberto Costa. Both clubs have sent scouts to check out the Porto right-back, 22, per Caught Offside. He moved to Portugal from Juventus in a €15m (£12.8m) deal last year, but his contract is said to contain a €65m (£55.7m) release clause.
Neither Arsenal nor United have yet formalised their interest in the player, but United could be set to do exactly that as they prepare to bolster their defensive ranks in coming windows.
Brobbey not for sale
Sunderland have no plans to sell Brian Brobbey, despite being aware of United's interest in signing the Dutch striker. United see Brobbey as a potential upgrade on Benjamin Sesko, according to Football Insider, and have reportedly been monitoring him for some time.
The Black Cats, though, will not entertain any offers for the player's services. He remains under contract until 2029 and is a key part of Regis Le Bris' squad, scoring three goals already this season.
