Manchester United are in talks with Leicester City over a deal to sign attacking midfielder Louis Page. The 18-year-old is highly rated at the King Power Stadium and was expected to play a big part in their League One campaign.
Page's rise and interest
Page was named as EFL apprentice of the year last season, despite the Foxes' relegation from the Championship. He has featured in the second tier for Leicester. BBC Sport claim that United are working on a deal to sign the teenager, with talks taking place between the two clubs. It's added that both Arsenal and Aston Villa have also shown an interest in Page.
United are in the middle of a midfield overhaul, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans making the move to Old Trafford this summer. They are keen to add a third new option with links to the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba.
Player profile and background
Page has mostly played in an attacking midfield or No.10 role for Leicester, although he can also play further back in midfield. He came off the bench in the second half of the club's 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town on Saturday.
He came up through the youth system with the Midlands club, and made his first-team debut just under a year ago in the Carabao Cup. He made a total of 22 first-team appearances last season. The midfielder signed a professional contract at the King Power Stadium last September, meaning that United will have to agree a fee with Leicester.
Potential fee and other targets
The Foxes sold fellow academy graduate Jeremy Monga to Manchester City for £10million, rising to £12.5million earlier this summer. Given the similarities in age and potential, they could look for a similar fee.
Page is not the only Leicester academy graduate that United have been credited with an interest in this summer. Earlier in the window, the Daily Mail named United as one of the teams to be showing an interest in central defender Ben Nelson. However, any move now looks unlikely with the 22-year-old suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the final pre-season game against Genoa, which will rule him out for the majority of the campaign.
