Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market as the club aim to bolster their squad under manager Michael Carrick. Carrick's side have already secured multiple new additions but will be seeking further recruits ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Midfield rebuild and new signings
United have focused on rebuilding their midfield following Casemiro's departure this summer. Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea before the club pulled off a surprise swoop for Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans. Ex-Leeds shot-stopper Karl Darlow has also joined as seasoned cover for Senne Lammens.
Yet United have demonstrated their dedication to bringing in young talent by finalising a transfer for promising Tottenham youngster Tynan Thompson. The 18-year-old winger, who featured in Champions League matchday squads for Spurs last season, has moved to Old Trafford for an initial £4m, with a further £4m in potential add-ons. The agreement with Spurs includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
Confirming the move, a United statement read: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration. The England youth international has joined from Tottenham Hotspur."
The statement added: "The 18-year-old scored 13 goals and contributed six assists last season across Under-18s to Under-21s level, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games. His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs' first-team matchday squads. Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future."
Marcus Rashford's future remains uncertain
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford's future continues to attract attention following the end of his time on England duty at the World Cup. The attacker hasn't played for United since December 2024 and his immediate future has appeared unclear since Barcelona chose not to exercise their £26m buy option following his loan spell this summer.
A separate clause permitting clubs to sign Rashford for £40m also lapsed this month. BBC Sport reports that Rashford, who has two years remaining on his deal, is "relaxed" about the prospect of returning to train with the United squad.
The 28-year-old is also said to enjoy a more positive rapport with former teammate and newly-appointed manager Carrick, in contrast to his "confrontational relationship" with ex-United boss Ruben Amorim. During his most recent stint away from Old Trafford, Rashford contributed 14 goals and 14 assists for Barcelona last season, claiming the La Liga title in the process.
Upon finishing his World Cup commitments, Rashford took to social media to write: "Keep believing in us. Our time will come. Now it's time for me to rest, reflect, spend some quality time with family and friends, and come back a better version of myself."
