Manchester City have rejected an opening offer from Barcelona for midfielder Rodri, with the Premier League club holding out for at least £60 million.
Barcelona's bid falls short
The La Liga giants' initial bid fell well short of City's valuation of the Spain international, who was named the best player at the World Cup after helping his nation lift the trophy.
The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad. While City would prefer him to sign an extension that has been on the table for months, they will reluctantly accept his desire to leave and would rather sell him this summer for a fee than lose him for free in 12 months.
Real Madrid step back
Real Madrid had shown serious interest in Rodri but have now stepped back from the race, leaving Barcelona as the leading contenders for his signature.
City are not prepared to allow their Ballon d'Or winner to depart on the cheap, and the club is seeking at least £60 million for the midfielder.
