Liverpool's Second Summer Transfer 'Decided' as Salah Successor Identified

Liverpool should secure a replacement for Mohamed Salah with their second signing of the summer transfer window. The Reds have already agreed a deal to bring in Jeremy Jacquet once the market opens, but attention must now turn to Yan Diomande.

Arne Slot's Difficult Campaign

Arne Slot endured a challenging season as Liverpool manager. Despite winning the Premier League title in his first year after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, his side struggled to defend the crown. Liverpool failed to reach any domestic cup finals and were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage. They narrowly secured fifth place in the league, clinching Champions League qualification by the slimmest of margins. Salah's departure from Anfield added to the misery, shifting focus firmly towards bringing in new talent.

Jacquet Deal Agreed

Liverpool struck an agreement to sign 20-year-old Jacquet from Rennes on February 2, though he has continued playing for the French club in the meantime. The deal is expected to cost the club £60 million, with the youngster set to join his new teammates this summer. He has recovered from shoulder surgery and is anticipated to be fully fit for pre-season preparations.

Diomande: The Ideal Salah Successor

Beyond Jacquet, Liverpool need to replace Salah, and Diomande fits the bill. The 19-year-old Ivorian has been labelled "unstoppable" by Leipzig boss Ole Werner and reportedly features on Liverpool's shortlist. Diomande primarily operates from the left wing and was recently named the Bundesliga's Rookie of the Season. He scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions, having joined Leipzig from Leganes in 2025 for just over £17 million. However, a reported release clause in his contract means his valuation could reach approximately £86 million should Liverpool pursue him.

Adaptability Key

Diomande's adaptability makes him an astute acquisition. With Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, and Rio Ngumoha competing for places across the forward line, his ability to play multiple roles is invaluable. He can feature on his preferred left flank or operate effectively from the right, allowing Ngumoha's development to continue unhindered. If Slot wishes to deploy both Isak and Ekitike simultaneously, Diomande can switch flanks. During matches, he can torment either full-back, keeping opposition defenders guessing.

Competition from PSG

Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring Diomande closely, giving Liverpool added incentive to move swiftly. Securing the teenager, who has the potential to light up Anfield's flanks for years, should be a priority.
