Liverpool have seen a £50 million bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh rejected, according to reports. The 22-year-old Gambia international has emerged as a target for the Reds as they search for a winger.
Minteh Keen on Move but Injured
Minteh is understood to be keen on a move to Anfield, though he is currently injured and faces eight more weeks on the sidelines. That did not deter Liverpool from making an offer to strengthen their attack.
According to The Athletic, Brighton have turned down the bid. It remains unclear whether Liverpool will return with an improved offer or pursue alternative targets, such as Paris Saint-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
Iraola's Winger Search
New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has made no secret of his desire to sign a winger, with Mohamed Salah having left the club in June. Cody Gakpo could also depart amid interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham.
Minteh has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 73 appearances for Brighton since joining from Newcastle for £30 million in the summer of 2024. Those appearances have largely come from the right wing, although he can also play on the left.
Brighton's Transfer Activity
Liverpool's bid for Minteh comes just over 24 hours after it emerged that Brighton are close to selling Carlos Baleba to Manchester United in a deal likely worth more than £65 million. The Seagulls have also lost Danny Welbeck to Chelsea this summer, making it difficult to prise the 22-year-old, who is under contract until 2029, away from the Amex.
Iraola said during Liverpool's pre-season tour last month: "There are obvious situations where we need to sign players. Winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger, but there are other situations where we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what is the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust, but it is still not the ideal situation, so it will depend on a lot of things."
