Liverpool's January Transfer Target Emerges
Liverpool are reportedly intensifying their interest in AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo as the January transfer window approaches. The Reds, who have endured a disastrous run of form with six losses in their last seven Premier League games, are believed to be seeking attacking reinforcements to reverse their fortunes.
The £65 Million Question
According to widespread reports, the 25-year-old Ghana international has a release clause in his contract valued at approximately £65 million. This significant fee could see Bournemouth part with their star player, though Liverpool may face competition from rivals Manchester United, who are also said to be monitoring the situation.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola attempted to downplay the speculation, stating recently, "We're in November, Antoine is our player, he will continue to be our player. In January, you can ask me about the market." He added that his current focus is not on potential transfers.
A Potential Perfect Fit at Anfield
Should a deal be completed, Semenyo would find several attractive squad numbers available at Liverpool. He currently wears the number 24 shirt for Bournemouth, which is also vacant at Anfield following the summer departures.
Other available numbers that could appeal to the forward include the No. 19 shirt, left empty after Harvey Elliott's loan move to Aston Villa, as well as numbers 21, 23, 27, and 29. Semenyo has previous experience wearing numbers 11 and 18 during his time at Bristol City, though those are currently occupied by Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo respectively.
Semenyo has already demonstrated his quality this season, scoring six goals for Bournemouth. Notably, he found the net twice against Liverpool during the opening weekend of the 2025/2026 Premier League season back in August, perhaps giving the Reds a firsthand look at the talent they are now pursuing.
With Liverpool languishing in 12th place in the table, the pressure is mounting on manager Arne Slot to turn things around, and a major January signing like Antoine Semenyo could be the catalyst for a much-needed revival.
