Another Liverpool Star on Real Madrid's Radar
Real Madrid are reportedly setting their sights on a second Liverpool player this season, with dynamic midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai emerging as a serious transfer target for the Spanish giants. This news comes shortly after the La Liga club performed a surprising U-turn on their interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
Szoboszlai Shines Amidst Anfield Struggles
Since his arrival at Anfield, the 25-year-old Hungarian international has been a revelation, establishing himself as one of manager Arne Slot's most consistent and influential performers. His impressive displays have been a rare bright spot during a challenging period for the reigning Premier League champions, inevitably attracting attention from Europe's elite clubs.
According to reports emerging from Hungary, Szoboszlai is of 'serious interest' to Real Madrid and is placed 'high on Los Blancos’ wish list' for the summer transfer window. The versatile midfielder's stock has risen significantly, making him a coveted asset.
"Too Big to Turn Down"
Adding fuel to the transfer speculation, former Premier League player Péter Halmosi has publicly encouraged his compatriot to consider a move to the Bernabéu. In comments to Hungarian publication Blikk, Halmosi stated that an offer from Real Madrid would be a monumental opportunity.
"I don’t think he should leave right away," Halmosi said, before adding, "Of course, who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid? It would be a step up... If Real wants him, that offer should be accepted, at least I would definitely do so. Not because of Liverpool’s poor performance, but because Madrid is the highest level, that’s the top."
He was also quick to dismiss any notion of a crisis at Liverpool, noting, "As for Liverpool’s weakness, I don’t think there is any drama yet, every big team has ups and downs. They can still get to one of the Champions League places."
Konate Links Cool as Defensive Concerns Linger
This is not the first time Real Madrid have been connected with a Liverpool star this season. French defender Ibrahima Konate was heavily linked with a move, especially with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2026, which would allow him to speak with other clubs from January 2025.
However, in a significant shift, The Athletic has reported that Real Madrid have made it clear to Liverpool that the 26-year-old defender is not on their radar. This leaves Konate's future uncertain, with discussions over a new deal at Anfield ongoing but yet to be finalised.
This situation could pose a problem for manager Arne Slot, who may soon be short of defensive options after the club's failure to sign Marc Guehi last summer. The precedent for such a move exists, as Trent Alexander-Arnold completed a transfer to Real Madrid last season, with Liverpool receiving a £10 million fee when Xabi Alonso's side secured the full-back's services for the Club World Cup.
