Liverpool decide against £100m Alex Scott January move after Szoboszlai injury
Liverpool rule out £100m Alex Scott January move after Szoboszlai blow

Liverpool are not planning to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in the January transfer window, despite Dominik Szoboszlai facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Szoboszlai was forced off after just 32 minutes of Saturday's comeback win over Brentford, suffering a recurrence of the hamstring problem he picked up while on international duty. After the match, manager Andoni Iraola admitted the midfielder is likely to be out for 'a while'.

Midfield depth backed

The Reds were already considering dipping into the January market before the injury and are admirers of Scott, who is attracting interest from bigger clubs. However, it is claimed they have no plans to move for his signature in the winter window.

Liverpool consider themselves well-stocked in midfield, with high hopes for academy duo Trey Nyoni and James McConnell. They would reportedly welcome Bournemouth keeping Scott until the summer, when the situation could change.

Scott's contract situation

Scott, now a fully-fledged England international, will be out of contract in the summer of 2027. Bournemouth are aware his value will shrink as that deadline approaches and are reportedly open to selling in January, with offers around the £100million mark being considered.

The 23-year-old could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Alexis Mac Allister, who was disappointed not to have been offered a new contract earlier this year. Chelsea are considered the frontrunners for Scott at this stage, having tried and failed to sign him in the summer.
