Liverpool Agree £35m Deal for Marc Guehi, Medical Scheduled

Marc Guehi is set to undergo a medical with Liverpool after Crystal Palace agreed a £35 million deal to sell their captain. The 26-year-old defender, who scored in Palace's first win of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday, will sign a five-year contract at Anfield.

Palace had been reluctant to sell Guehi, who has just one year remaining on his contract. However, the club did not want to risk losing him on a free transfer next summer, having invested £20 million to sign him from Chelsea in 2021.

Guehi, who captained the Eagles to FA Cup glory last season, had previously sought assurances over playing time ahead of next year's World Cup. He maintained he would be happy to see out his contract at Palace, but the club pushed for a sale to avoid a financial loss.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner reiterated after Sunday's win that he wanted Guehi to stay and stressed the need to find a suitable replacement before sanctioning his departure. The club have identified several centre-back options, including Manchester City's Manuel Akanji, but have yet to sign anyone.

Guehi's arrival marks another major deal for Liverpool, who are also set to confirm a £125 million British transfer record deal for Alexander Isak. The double Deadline Day deal will take Liverpool's summer spending beyond an estimated £470 million.
