Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for a club-record fee. The 22-year-old England Under-21 international has agreed a five-year contract at the City Ground.
Record Signing for Forest
The fee is understood to be in the region of £35m, surpassing the previous club-record outlay paid for Morgan Gibbs-White. Delap becomes Forest's eighth signing of the summer transfer window as the club looks to build on their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Delap scored 15 goals in 35 league appearances for Ipswich last season, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League. His performances attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, including Chelsea, but Forest moved quickly to secure his signature.
Delap's Career So Far
The son of former Stoke City throw-in specialist Rory Delap, the young forward began his career at Derby County before joining Manchester City's academy in 2019. He made his senior debut for City in the Carabao Cup in 2020 and had loan spells at Stoke City, Preston North End and Hull City before joining Ipswich permanently in 2024.
Delap is expected to provide competition for the likes of Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi in Forest's attack. He will wear the number 29 shirt for his new club.
Forest's Summer Business
Forest have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer, with Delap joining the likes of goalkeeper Matz Sels, defenders Nikola Milenkovic and Alex Moreno, and midfielders Elliot Anderson and James Ward-Prowse at the City Ground. The club have also signed winger Jota Silva and forward Omar Marmoush.
The signing of Delap is a statement of intent from Forest as they prepare for their second consecutive season in the Premier League. The club will be hoping that the young striker can replicate his goalscoring form from last season and help them push for European qualification.
