Liam Delap is in talks over a potential move from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest. Standard Sport understands the player’s representatives are in discussions with Forest over the possible terms of a deal.
It is currently unclear what form any deal might take, but Chelsea are known to be willing to sell the striker this summer and value him at £50million.
Interest and background
Delap had interest from Manchester United, Everton and others last summer but joined Chelsea after they triggered his £30m relegation release clause following relegation with Ipswich Town.
Delap has also been of interest to Everton this summer, but the level of the Merseyside club’s interest is uncertain.
Current situation at Chelsea
Now, though, there is the possibility he will be moving to the City Ground as talks take place between his camp and the club now managed by Oliver Glasner.
Chelsea are expected to focus on outgoings for the remainder of the transfer window as they look to trim down Xabi Alonso’s squad.
Struggles and squad competition
Delap has disappointed since arriving at Chelsea, struggling for starts up front in the Premier League and last season in the Champions League due to the strong form of another summer 2025 signing in the form of Joao Pedro.
Delap returned just three goals and five assists from 47 appearances across all competitions last season.
Delap’s chances of playing a prominent role for Chelsea this season were complicated by the return of Nicolas Jackson from a loan spell at Bayern Munich and summer signing of Strasbourg’s Emmanuel Emegha.
He was left out of the travelling squad to face Fulham in Chelsea’s Premier League opener on Monday night. Delap has also been training apart from Alonso’s first-team in a separate group of transfer listed players, which also features Marc Guiu, Mykhailo Mudryk and Jackson.
