Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has returned home from the club's warm weather training camp in La Manga with a minor injury. The 21-year-old left-back is a transfer target for Manchester United this summer, with the Magpies rejecting an initial enquiry from Michael Carrick's side.
Newcastle's firm stance
Newcastle are adamant that Hall will not be sold this summer, despite interest from United, having already lost Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer. Eddie Howe's departure from the club has resulted in further speculation about Hall's future. However, the North East club have made it clear that Hall is not for sale this summer and will be a key part of Matthias Jaissle's plans.
Injury and recovery
Chronicle Live says Hall and fellow defender Fabian Schar have been given time off after the warm-weather training camp in La Manga to recover from their injuries. The England international has been working on a separate training programme from his Newcastle teammates in Spain, focusing on upper-body sessions. Hall won't feature for the new head coach, Jaissle, in his first game in charge of the Magpies against Valencia this evening.
Man United's interest
Man United are understood to be keen on bringing in a new full-back this summer, and Carrick is a big admirer of Hall. Recent reports claim the defender would be open to a move to Old Trafford, should a transfer fee be agreed, but Newcastle have adopted a firm stance following a summer of upheaval. The Reds have also been linked with a move for Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas. However, the La Liga club have made it clear the 19-year-old will only be sold if his £13.7million release clause is met. Barcelona have also been linked with a move for the defender, having had a bid rejected earlier this summer.
United's left-back options
Luke Shaw is United's main man at left-back, with Carrick opting to use Patrick Dorgu in a more advanced position and the club are keen on strengthening that side of the defence.
