Lewis Ferguson: Rangers move 'will definitely happen'

Lewis Ferguson has insisted he WILL play for Rangers one day if he's given the chance. The Scotland international, who was at Ibrox as a kid before being released, has been heavily linked with a move to his boyhood heroes this summer.

The Bologna midfielder, who worked under Derek McInnes at Aberdeen, has opened up on his dream of gracing the Ibrox turf where both dad Derek and uncle Barry won major silverware.

Ferguson's Rangers dream

Ferguson spoke to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport and delivered an emphatic response when asked about playing for Rangers in the future. The 26-year-old said: "It’s my favourite team, and I’ve always said I want to play for Rangers. One day, though I don’t know when yet, it will definitely happen if I get the chance."

Ferguson is under contract until 2028 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium and the Serie A side reportedly want up to £17million for him.

Dad Derek questions Rangers interest

That led to dad Derek questioning why Rangers bothered enquiring about the player. He said on the Open Goal podcast: "Was that not a waste of f****** time? A waste of time, having the conversation and all that? Because, they must have know the price - between €15million and €20million - Rangers can't go that far for a player. So why did they f****** go down that route? Hopefully that will happen somewhere down the line, but I thought that was a waste of time."

Future at Bologna and love for Glasgow

On his future in Bologna, Ferguson added: "I haven’t thought about a renewal. My focus right now is football; I don’t want to think about contracts or anything else. Then, if there’s something to discuss, we’ll talk."

But the former Hamilton and Aberdeen man declared his love for Glasgow, saying: "It’s my second home now. Glasgow, where I grew up, was my first, but here I immediately felt welcomed by everyone. My family is also here; my second daughter was born in Bologna and is called Lorena, an Italian name. I liked it, and it’s in honour of Lauren, my sister, who died before I was born."
