Leona Maguire has been selected as one of Europe's four wildcard picks for the 2026 Solheim Cup, securing her fourth consecutive appearance in the biennial team competition.
Wildcard selections announced
The European captain, Suzann Pettersen, announced the wildcard picks on Monday, with Maguire joining Emily Pedersen, Celine Boutier, and Charley Hull in the team. The four players will join the eight automatic qualifiers for the event, which will be held at Gleneagles in Scotland from September 7-13.
Maguire's experience and form
Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, has been a key figure in Europe's recent Solheim Cup successes, having played a pivotal role in the team's victories in 2021 and 2023. She also featured in the 2024 contest, which ended in a tie, meaning Europe retained the trophy.
Her selection comes after a solid season on the LPGA Tour, where she has recorded three top-10 finishes, including a runner-up spot at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Pettersen said: "Leona brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the team. Her record in this competition speaks for itself, and I have no doubt she will be a key asset at Gleneagles."
Team Europe's full lineup
The automatic qualifiers included Sweden's Maja Stark, Linn Grant, and Anna Nordqvist, along with England's Georgia Hall, Spain's Carlota Ciganda, and Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen. The team will be looking to extend their unbeaten run, having won the last two contests and tied the most recent one.
The Solheim Cup will be played at the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles, with the United States as the opposition. The Americans will name their team after the conclusion of the AIG Women's Open later this month.
