England captain Harry Kane is reportedly set to extend his Bayern Munich contract by a further two years, as the German club fends off interest from Barcelona. The striker has entered the final year of his current deal at the Allianz Arena.
Reports had suggested that Barcelona were interested in signing Kane this summer as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski. However, a stay in Germany now appears likely.
Contract Extension Details
According to The Times, the 33-year-old will extend his contract until 2029, with no significant change to his current salary. Kane is one of Bayern's top earners, with an annual wage of around £21.5 million.
Kane has yet to return to pre-season training, having had an extended break following this summer's World Cup with England, where he captained the Three Lions to a third-place finish.
Upcoming Fixtures
He is expected to join his teammates later this week as Bayern prepares for their Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart on Friday, 28 August. Before that, they face Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup final on Saturday, 22 August.
Impressive Record
Kane scored 61 goals in 51 games in all competitions for Bayern last season, helping them win the Bundesliga title for the second consecutive year. He will aim to continue that form in the new campaign.
The report also notes an 'expectation' that Kane will eventually return to the Premier League to chase Alan Shearer's scoring record. Kane has 213 Premier League goals, 47 short of Shearer's 260.
There has been ongoing speculation about a return to Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored all his Premier League goals after coming through the academy, but Spurs may have to wait longer. Kane left Tottenham in 2023 for a fee of around £86 million.
