Jack Grealish has been told to snub a move back to Everton and join one of Crystal Palace, Newcastle United or Tottenham Hotspur instead. Grealish is currently back at Manchester City after his loan spell with the Blues ended in June.
Grealish's fitness and Everton's desire
The England international now appears to have returned to full fitness though after being named on the bench for the Community Shield against Arsenal. However, there is a desire from Everton - and they believe on the side of the player - for him to return to the club this season.
Another loan deal is likely since the 30-year-old has one year remaining on a contract at the Etihad Stadium, understood to be worth in excess of £350,000 a week.
Waddle's advice
But former international Chris Waddle, speaking via Snabbare, believes: “Can Jack Grealish replace Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa? He could do that but I don’t think he will go back to Villa.
“I think a club like Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur or Crystal Palace suits him best now.
“The worst thing as a footballer is that when you finish up, people look back at your career and say you won your league titles and the Champions League, but you didn’t really play too many of those games, did you?
“He’ll know he didn’t play a lot of football for Manchester City, and it’s alright people pointing to his medals, but if he wasn’t in the first XI for a good period, it’s not the same.
“He had a run in the team but his City career never really took off and he’s never shown his best football in a City shirt. Not when you compare him to the players City have had over the years like Rodri and Bernardo Silva. Grealish could have been in that category, but he isn’t.
Need for regular football
“I want to see Jack Grealish go to a team where he’s straight into the first XI playing week in, week out, playing football again. That’s what we all want to see. You want to see these players on the pitch. If that means leaving Manchester City to get that opportunity again, he has to go and do it.
“Grealish is a sturdy player. He’s not on his last legs. He’s not on his way out. He just needs to play. Is he good enough to get a game for Manchester City? He’s got to look at that now and be honest with himself.
“Everton fans took to him, he gave them a good balance, and there will be a team out there who Jack Grealish can do a good job for, there’s no doubt about that, but he’s not going to be playing first-team football for City on a regular basis.
“It hasn’t worked out that way for him. Now he needs to go to another club where he can play football, not waste his best years sitting on the bench.”
