Galatasaray have made an approach to Arsenal regarding a potential move for Gabriel Martinelli. However, the Gunners are not expected to entertain the Turkish club's interest unless they first secure a replacement.
Martinelli in Arteta's plans
According to football.london, the 25-year-old remains part of Mikel Arteta's plans for the upcoming season. Yet, Arsenal's ambitious pursuit of Vinicius Junior signals a desire to strengthen on the wings, and other clubs have taken note of Martinelli's possible availability.
Christos Tzolis has already joined the club this summer and has been Arteta's preferred left winger throughout pre-season. The former Norwich City player scored in the win over Girona and provided an assist for Piero Hincapie's headed goal in the defeat to Real Betis.
Output concerns
A desire for more consistent output appears to be driving Arsenal's search for another attacker. Martinelli managed just one Premier League goal in 30 appearances last season. He impressed during the Champions League league phase but failed to score in any knockout match en route to the final.
That impact in crucial moments seems to be what Arsenal are looking for. Should they identify a suitable option, it would likely trigger a change in approach regarding Martinelli's situation.
The player is thought to be content in north London and still aspires to compete at the highest level. However, the guarantee of regular game time and the prospect of being displaced by another new signing could alter his outlook.
Arteta hints at more signings
Arteta addressed the media after the clash in Girona, suggesting further transfer activity could be on the horizon in the coming weeks. Bruno Guimaraes has already been confirmed as an Arsenal signing, though additional deals are still anticipated.
"We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously," the Spaniard said after the 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona.
"We want to get better like anybody else, and you just can see the transfer market and our opponents, what we are doing. We won't sit still, and we are very ambitious with what we are doing.
"The margins are very small. Because we want to get better, and the level is going to increase. We need to increase the competition internally. We need to make sure we identify the things that we don't have in the team."
