Dastan Satpayev: Chelsea confirm summer exit as young star joins Burnley on loan

Chelsea have confirmed the loan departure of Dastan Satpayev, who moves to Burnley on a season-long deal. The Kazakh striker, who joined the Blues from Kairat this summer, will spend the campaign playing in the Championship after the Clarets’ relegation from the top flight last term.

Pre-season with Chelsea

Satpayev, 18, joined up with his new Chelsea team-mates on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, where he featured and scored in the 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. He started the game off the left flank, and opened the scoring inside six minutes in Xabi Alonso’s first pre-season game in charge. He then came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham and the 1-0 loss to Juventus, and he was also handed a cameo appearance late on in the ill-tempered 3-3 draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim last weekend.

Move to Burnley

At Kairat, he made 58 first-team appearances, playing in the Champions League, and he hit 26 goals. Now, he moves to the north west, where he will play under new Burnley boss Nicky Hayen, who took over the reins at Turf Moor from Mike Jackson, who had been placed in interim charge after Scott Parker’s sacking.

Satpayev will battle it out with Zian Flemming for the chance to lead the line for the Championship outfit this term, but his versatility means that he can operate out wide or as one of the two No10s in the 3-4-2-1 formation that Hayen adopted in the penalty shootout victory over Notts County in the first round of the League Cup last weekend. Marcus Edwards and Aaron Ramsey started in those two positions behind Flemming in that game, but they were replaced by Mike Tresor and Zeki Amdouni in the second half as the second-tier side sought a winning goal that didn’t come.
