Youssef Chermiti has been urged to leave Rangers for Porto by his former mentor Joao Couto, as the Ibrox club awaits a 'serious' offer for the striker. The 22-year-old Portuguese forward had an up-and-down debut season in Glasgow after his £8m move from Everton, but finished strongly with 15 goals, including a hat-trick against Hearts and a brace against Celtic.
Rangers reportedly rejected a £13m bid from Fenerbahce in January, and now demand £25m for the player, who has three years left on his contract. Porto, Galatasaray, and PSV Eindhoven are among the clubs linked.
Couto's advice
Joao Couto, former Sporting youth coach and coordinator, told Bola Branca: 'I would like him to return to Sporting, but Porto is a very good club for him. I remember when he was a beginner and people envisioned him as a future striker for the country. His departure to Everton helped him. He had a different style of football, he had to adapt, he faced difficulties. This enriched him in terms of football.'
Chermiti came through Sporting's academy before joining Everton in 2023. Couto believes a move to Porto would further his development.
Rangers' stance
According to Correio da Manha, Rangers are waiting for serious offers to emerge. The Scottish club is holding firm on their £25m valuation, with Chermiti still having three years remaining on his current deal. The striker's improved form in the second half of the season has justified their decision to reject earlier bids.
