Trevoh Chalobah says England’s foreign legion are bringing more experience to Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Chalobah moved to Como in the summer and part of the former Chelsea defender’s decision was to take himself out of his comfort zone to further his England career.
England players moving abroad
John Stones and Djed Spence also moved to Inter Milan in the summer while Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are established as superstars at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah and Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon also made moves abroad and are key members of Tuchel’s England set-up.
Chalobah, 27, who moved from Chelsea to Como for £30million, said: “It's been amazing so far. It's different, obviously playing abroad before in my own spells in France, it's obviously feels a bit similar in terms of the culture, the language.
“I'm loving it so far every minute, and it's a good thing that a lot of us England players as well are playing abroad to bring that experience into the camp and it's been good.”
Chalobah ready for Czech Republic chance
Chalobah got a late call-up to the World Cup squad and is now reaping the benefits because he is in Tuchel’s plans and could get a chance against Czech Republic because of injuries. He said: “I'm ready to go. I'm fit. I said everyone looks after their body, you know. As I said, it's an unfortunate thing when it comes to injuries. It can just happen, you know.
“Football's unpredictable in terms of injuries. You never know. You can be feeling great, you can be doing everything right, but then things happen. So obviously, we've lost those two players now, they are massive players and a massive part of the squad. And with this is that we have players that are ready to go and ready to to step in.”
Training with superstars
Chalobah also says that facing the likes of Kane and Bellingham and training is helping him raise his own level through this international window. He added: “They're showing a very high level at the moment. Just goes to show that what they're doing at their clubs is amazing. Also, to then obviously bring that into the camp, into that game, watching from the bench, it was breath-taking.
“You know, it could have been more goals, and that's the scary thing about it. To have those players in our team is it's amazing. Defending against those players is it's only going to improve us defenders, you know. So it's a good thing we have them on our team and not in the opposition.”
