Celtic will reportedly see a transfer row over fees owed by Internacional for Alexandro Bernabei taken to FIFA. The Argentinian left-back joined the Brazilian Serie A side in January 2025 after impressing on loan, with the club reportedly due around £4million in payments.
Celtic's stance on the deal
Celtic are also understood to have insisted on a sell-on clause for the 24-year-old when they concluded the deal, but issues have been flagged by media in Brazil. The club are said to be sitting with around £6million in debts and are looking to cut their cloth when the season concludes, with 10 rounds to go before the end of the current campaign.
Reports of unpaid instalments
Reports in Brazil suggest that "instalments have not been paid" to Celtic for Bernabei, and Inter believe Celtic have "notified the governing body", leading to fears FIFA will hit the club with a transfer ban. It is claimed that fees have ramped up from the original agreement, and the Scottish Premiership champions could now be owed a total fee in the region of £5million. It is not stated how much of the fee has already been paid to the Glasgow giants.
Impact on Internacional
It also noted that potential relegation to Série B "would have a direct impact on the budget", with the club currently sitting in the relegation zone. It is said that "could influence the decision players" as the club look to generate cash. Bernabei made 28 appearances for Celtic in total after arriving from Lanus in 2022 and scored one goal at Ross County.
